A Shared Commitment to Ocean Preservation
Clean Oceans International was honored to host members of the Amah Mutsun Land Trust (AMLT) for an Environmental Plastic Assessment Program (EPAP) Rib Survey and Coastal Cleanup training on the Santa Cruz coast in August of 2025.
The Amah Mutsun Land Trust, an initiative of the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, works to access, protect, and steward lands that are deeply connected to their cultural identity. Their efforts to revitalize traditional ecological knowledge provide valuable insight into the relationship between people, land, and ocean.
During the training, AMLT Native Stewards learned COI’s field survey methods and collected 149 pieces of plastic waste and 11 non-plastic debris items. They are exploring ways to incorporate EPAP monitoring techniques into their stewardship plans for culturally important sites.
We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with AMLT in advancing shared goals of environmental stewardship.
