HAPPY EARTH DAY, everyone!!
Santa Cruz showed up this Earth Day in celebration of our shared environment. COI connected with many community members throughout the day about the persistent and visible issue of plastic pollution. We shared how our Environmental Plastic Assessment Program is helping build a clearer picture of how plastic debris changes across time and location, and why that data matters.
We also discussed our ongoing work exploring portable plastic waste conversion systems, focusing on localized, small-scale approaches to managing plastic waste where traditional systems fall short.
What stood out most was the level of engagement. Many conversations went beyond surface-level awareness. People wanted to understand the data, the challenges, and what practical solutions could look like. These interactions continue to shape our work.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to connect with us—we appreciate being part of such a thoughtful and engaged community.
