The Santa Cruz Alliance for Ocean Conservation
conducted its first semi-annual

Corcoran Lagoon and Coastal Clean-Up on May 27, 2023!
Though it was the first for the alliance, it was the 46th for David Schwartz, retired Cabrillo College oceanography professor, and current COI Education Director. This cleanup was small but mighty - 18 people collected over 40lbs of trash that could have made its way into the ocean. You can read more here.

Our fall cleanup will be in
late October - stay tuned for updates!

YEA Summit - April 2023

Homer and David attended the Youth for Environmental Action; Empowering Teens for Climate Change Summit on Monday April 17th. Over 100 students were present from a number of Santa Cruz County High Schools. What impressed us the most was the summit was planned and led by the students. Activities included introductions, students speaking about personal climate change injustice experiences, a guest panel discussion from climate scientists focusing on what individuals can do, and a session where students engaged with the guest organizations. We had a wonderful time talking with students about the mission and goals of COI. All the students were interested in attending our upcoming coastal cleanup on May 27!
Inspired by a picture book, Max Romey heads to a remote beach on Alaska’s coastline in search of marine debris. What he finds is a different story altogether.
