Our annual beach cleanup event in Brazil keeps on growing. This third year of the COI Brazil Cleanup Event was held at @Itaipu Beach. We are spreading the word about plastic pollution: working with local communities and schools is making a difference.
In 2018 we had 140 volunteers and we collected approximately 400 Kg of plastic debris. We had help from many local sponsors like El Pescador, Areias Restaurante, AquaGelo, LavoroSolutions, Clin – Niteroi, AquaFish, CCRON, Lagoas Bar, Puro Suco, Fit Fresh, Saboreando, Acanto Creche-Escola, Marcelo Natural, Emporio Verde, and Gege Galindo.
This Year we also made student presentations in collaboration with 2 different schools: Colegio Paulo Freire and Acanto Creche-Escola. We look forward to getting more schools involved next year. COI in Brazil is mobilizing local society in the fight against plastic pollution: bringing awareness of proper waste management and an expansion of socio-educational actions on beaches and in parks, with schools and universities. This year we focused on plastic straws - one of the great litter problems on tourism beaches worldwide. This is easy to cure with awareness and public resolve. If we ask to stop using them, they will stop being used. Demand leads supply; Stop the demand. Thank you to all the volunteers and Kelly Duim of team COI Brazil for another great event!
